Walnut Woods Tall Pines

Columbus has a vast array of picturesque Metroparks, but Walnut Woods is becoming one of my favorites. With a couple different areas of trails and a dog park, there are lots of options for photoshoots. As much as I like hiking to Walnut Creek and getting photos on the rocky beaches, the Tall Pines area takes the win for couples and family photoshoots. On this particular shoot, Alex and Jacob wanted family photos with their daughter and newborn.

This wasn’t my first shoot with Alex and Jacob. Having done maternity photos I knew we clicked. A refreshing couple to be around. They are the type of people that care more about hearing about others than telling others about themselves. And their relationship is fun. Somehow bringing you into their natural jokes on each other. The type of people that want more than anything for you to simply relax and be yourself. Then it’s just time to laugh and have a great time. And from what I can tell, their whole family is the same way.

The Walnut Woods Tall Pines area makes things easy for shoots like this. A nice paved parking lot, bathrooms at the trail entrance, and an easy 1 mile walk on paved trails. The paved trail (with a short crushed limestone section) makes it easy for families with strollers to get to the most scenic part of the trail - an area with rows and rows of tall pine trees.

The paved trail goes right through a section of the trees, but you can also find areas with more natural, rustic trails. On my shoots, I take advantage of these trails and the tall grasses on the way back to the pines and get a variety of photos.

Of course Alex and Jacob loved the area as well, and we took full advantage of the fall colors in the areas of forest before getting to the pines. They live nearby, but had never been to this area. And this is part of the reason I love what I do. An outdoorsey person who has spent a lot of time exploring beautiful places, I now get to introduce others to these areas.
